Timeform Review (2026) — Horse Racing Data & Ratings
Last tested: May 2026 · Version: v1.0 · Editor: Max Yao
Timeform has operated independently since 1948 and has 70+ years of hand-crafted horse ratings. The TF Master Ratings are the closest thing to an objective truth about horse ability that UK racing has — they’re what serious professional punters and trainers use when they’re not using Racing Post.
What Timeform does well
- TF Master Ratings: The single most authoritative measure of horse ability in UK and Irish racing. Updated after every run, with analyst commentary on each rating change.
- Editorial independence: Timeform has no bookmaker affiliate revenue — their income is subscription-only. This means their ratings are uninfluenced by affiliate incentives.
- Analyst quality: Small team of deeply specialised analysts rather than a large journalist pool. Quality per word is higher than Racing Post editorial.
- Historical depth: 70+ years of ratings data, queryable. Unmatched for pedigree and breeding analysis.
- Bet Finder: A tools layer that cross-references TF ratings against current market prices to surface value bets — useful for Segment 3 form-students.
What we don’t like
- Price barrier: £25/mo (or £19/mo annual) puts Timeform above Racing Post Members Club. For UK racing’s free-first audience, this is a significant commitment.
- Not a results site: Timeform’s primary product is ratings and analysis, not live results. You’ll still need Racing Post or this site for real-time settlement data.
- B2B orientation: The product increasingly targets trading operations and data licensees rather than individual punters. UI reflects this — feels like a professional tool, not a consumer product.
- No mobile app at the quality of competitors — the web product is not fully optimised for mobile.
