Methodology

Version 1.0 β€” May 2026. Editor: Max Yao.

Results data

SP data is sourced from Press Association returns, the official UK racing results feed. We record weigh-in time, winner, SP, and status (confirmed, stewards, DSQ) for every race. Target update latency: under 90 seconds from weigh-in to on-page display.

Bookmaker ranking

Rankings are determined by four equally-weighted dimensions:

  1. Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) policy β€” window start time, payout cap, exclusions
  2. Odds variance scorecard β€” morning price vs SP deviation across 312 races (Q1 2026)
  3. Settlement speed β€” time from weigh-in to account credit
  4. Account restriction behaviour β€” documented via community sources (r/Horseracing, Talking Horses)

We do not weight rankings by affiliate commission rate. Commission rates are not factored into any score.

Odds variance scorecard (quarterly)

Each quarter, we record morning prices (08:00–09:00 on race day) at 6 UK bookmakers across 12 tracks. We compare morning price to official SP at the off and compute mean variance per bookmaker per track. The scorecard is published at /research/odds-variance-2026Q1/.

Methodology: 312 races, January–March 2026. Flat and jumps mixed. No minimum SP filter applied. Outliers (SP greater than 100/1) excluded from mean but retained in dataset CSV. Data is CC-BY-4.0 licensed and available for download.

Tipster evaluation

We do not produce our own tipster P&L records. Tipster evaluations reference proofed records from Smart Betting Club where available, or explicitly state that records are self-reported and unverified. Any tipster described as "audited" cites a specific SBC report or equivalent third-party verification.
